“Untuk di Indonesia, Indosat tidak ada pengaduan sama sekali terkait masalah pengiriman email dan messenger BlackBerry seperti di Amerika Serikat,” katanya saat dihubungi dari Jakarta, kemarin.

Namun sejalan dengan kasus yang terjadi di Amerika Serikat, Indosat bersiap-siap menghadapi kemungkinan serupa. Teguh menyebutkan Indosat telah menyiapkan beberapa langkah, di antaranya dengan meningkatkan kapasitas bandwidth.

Operator Indonesia juga mengajukan proposal ke RIM agar membangun pusat layanan RIM Internet Service di Indonesia. “Operator di Indonesia telah membuat proposal ke RIM agar bisa mendirikan RIM Internet Service di Indonesia, namun hal ini baru akan terealisasi di 2011,” ujar Teguh.

Teguh menyatakan RIM Internet Service itu diperlukan sejalan dengan semakin maraknya penggunaan berbagai aplikasi terutama untuk social networking system (SNS). Selain itu kenaikan jumlah pelanggan BlackBerry juga diperkirakan akan terjadi tahun mendatang.

Head of Mobile Data Axis Faizal Adiputra mengatakan, Indonesia merupakan salah satu pengguna BlackBerry terbesar di Asia. Oleh karena itu operator ingin lebih bekerjasama dengan RIM, karena prospek BlackBerry makin bagus di 2010. “Apalagi dengan fitur aplikasi SNS bagi pengguna BlackBerry,” tambahnya.

Faizal menyatakan, Axis akan terus berekspansi dengan menambah jumlah BTS yang saat ini sudah lebih dari 3.000 baik tower bersama maupun milik sendiri, termasuk untuk pelanggan BlackBerry. “Kami berharap agar RIM bisa menguatkan perannya di Asia, tidak hanya di Eropa atau Amerika,” papar Faizal.

Teguh Prasetya mengamini besarnya potensi BlackBerry di Indonesia pada tahun-tahun mendatang. Ia menyebut awalnya Indosat menyediakan bandwidth 2 Mbps. Pada 2010 bandwidth sudah mencapai 150 Mbps dan telah disiapkan hingga 1GBps hingga akhir 2010.

“Pertumbuhan trafik pelanggan Indosat yang menggunakan BlackBerry akan meningkat 25-30% pada pergantian tahun 2009 ke 2010,” timpal Teguh
